Cavers Castle was purchased by the new owner in September 2019. After seeing the ruins advertised, she felt an immediate affinity with the place, and together with a friend booked tickets to Scotland and paid a visit. Falling in love with the building and area, she decided to purchase the castle with the intention of bringing it back to life, and its historical place as an important local landmark at the heart of the community.
Simon Forder, the project historian, first visited Cavers in 2015 with his family, and also felt an affinity to the castle, returning several times over the next three years. A historian specialising in castles with research stretching back over 15 years, he has written histories of over 400 Scottish castles, and is a council member of the Scottish Castles Association, which has many members who have restored ruined castles in Scotland and brought them back into use. He is currently putting together a definitive written history of Cavers Castle, and has rewritten the Wikipedia page about the castle.
We are currently consulting on plans regarding the building and grounds, which we intend to restore and renovate, honouring the buildings and people that have gone before – we intend to open up substantial parts of both to the general public.
